Veterinary roles we recruit

Who does your practice
need to hire?

Choose the recruitment service for your vacancy, from a general-practice associate to a specialist or multi-hospital leader.

For Fresno veterinary employers

One valley, many jurisdictions.
Specific hospital assignments.

A Tower District associate role, a Clovis equine appointment and a Visalia dairy search need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, county, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.

Associate veterinarians

Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time; California does not require continuing education at a first license renewal.

Plan an associate search →

Specialist and emergency appointments

Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the technicians who support the shift.

Scope a specialist role →

Medical and regional leadership

List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and say who is the licensee manager on each premises permit.

Define a medical director role →

Put the hospital address, county and site details in the brief.

Use the actual work address, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present a Madera or Hanford vacancy as interchangeable with a central Fresno hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.

Keep one clear decision process.

Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s California license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.

Choose the service that matches the vacancy.

This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.

Fresno veterinary hiring context for employers

The California Veterinary Medical Board states that veterinarians certify 36 hours of approved continuing education for each two-year renewal period, that licensees licensed in California for less than two years have no continuing education requirement, and that applicants who did not graduate from UC Davis or Western University of Health Sciences must also complete the Veterinary Law Examination. Its application guidance says license verification must come directly from every jurisdiction where the applicant has held a license, and an out-of-state applicant who cannot reach a California Live Scan site submits fingerprint hard cards. For technicians, the Board states that registered veterinary technician applicants take the VTNE through AAVSB and meet one of four education or experience pathways. The USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture profile ranks Fresno County first among California counties for the market value of agricultural products sold and for cattle and calves, and it places Tulare, Kings, Madera and Fresno counties among the state’s top ten for milk from cows. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists a median annual wage for veterinarians in the Fresno area above the national median and below the California median. The same state rules apply to every Fresno employer, so confirm them before the Fresno search starts.

  • Continuing education support: California requires 36 approved hours every two years, and CVMA states that up to six may be self-study, so state the paid time and course costs the practice covers.
  • Licensing and start date: the Board says it must receive all required documentation before it issues a license, and it states that practice on an inactive or expired license is illegal, so confirm license status and keep the start date separate from the license date.
  • Premises and drugs: each registered premises has a licensee manager named on its permit, and a veterinary assistant needs a Board permit before obtaining or administering controlled substances, so name those roles in the brief.
  • Food-animal and equine scope: the USDA profile ranks Fresno County first in California for cattle and calves and second for horses, ponies, mules, burros and donkeys, and the Board requires antimicrobial continuing education every four years, so say whether the role includes herd health, farm calls or equine work.
  • Valley fever: the CDC states that Valley fever is most common in California and Arizona and that pets can also become infected, so say how the hospital handles diagnosis and client communication.

Plan California credential checks before the start date.

Use the DCA License Search for the California Veterinary Medical Board for the relevant professional record. California licenses veterinarians and registers veterinary technicians through the Veterinary Medical Board, and each record in the DCA search shows whether a license is current, expired or subject to disciplinary action. Assign a person to verify status and the expiration date, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Board. Check any additional specialty credentials required by the employer with the issuing organization.

For a candidate moving from another state, review the California Veterinary Medical Board’s veterinarian applicant information. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that California requirements are satisfied. An applicant applies through BreEZe, submits license verification from every jurisdiction where a license has been held, completes fingerprinting and, unless a graduate of UC Davis or Western University of Health Sciences, completes the Veterinary Law Examination. The Board determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.

If the role depends on technician delegation, confirm registered veterinary technician status through the same search. For related references, see the Board’s license verification page and the Board’s RVT registration requirements and the Board’s continuing education page.

Veterinary recruitment coverage

Fresno and
surrounding communities.

A Fresno veterinary search works best when the hospital address comes before the city label. Fresno plan areas, the other cities of Fresno County and the neighboring Madera, Kings and Tulare counties are different workplaces under different local governments. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.

Name the street address, city and county. Fresno COG lists fifteen incorporated cities in Fresno County, each with its own government, and the Census Bureau’s 2025 estimates place Fresno and Madera counties in the Fresno metropolitan statistical area, Kings County in the Hanford-Corcoran area and Tulare County in the Visalia area. Old Fig Garden and Lemoore Station are census designated places, not cities. Coverage on this site is limited to California; a hospital in another state falls under a different licensing authority.

City of Fresno plan areas and neighborhoods

The City of Fresno’s General Plan page lists nine community plan areas, including Woodward Park, Bullard, West Area, Fresno-High Roeding, Hoover, McLane, Roosevelt and Downtown Neighborhoods, and separate specific plans such as the Tower District, the Fulton Corridor and Southwest Fresno. The Census Bureau lists Old Fig Garden as a census designated place, which is separate from the incorporated city of Fresno. Give the street address and the plan area or place before describing a Fresno role, and keep a Tower District assignment apart from a downtown or north Fresno one.

Clovis and southeast Fresno County

Clovis, Sanger, Reedley, Selma and Kingsburg are separate incorporated cities in Fresno County according to the Census Bureau, and Fresno Humane Animal Services lists each as having its own animal control officers and holding facility. Name the city and the street address for each role, and list any second site on its own line.

West and south Fresno County

Kerman, Coalinga and Fowler are separate incorporated cities in Fresno County, and Fresno Humane Animal Services lists each with its own animal control officers and holding facility. Coalinga sits in the western part of the county. Mendota, Firebaugh, San Joaquin, Huron, Parlier and Orange Cove are also Fresno County cities, so a role in one of them belongs in a brief with its own street address.

Madera County

Madera and Chowchilla are separate incorporated cities in Madera County. The Census Bureau’s 2025 metro estimates place Madera County in the Fresno metropolitan statistical area, but Fresno COG lists only Fresno County and its fifteen cities as members. State the county in every brief and keep a Madera County site apart from a Fresno County one.

Kings and Tulare counties

Hanford and Lemoore are incorporated cities in Kings County, and Visalia is an incorporated city in Tulare County. The Census Bureau’s 2025 estimates list Kings County as the Hanford-Corcoran metropolitan area and Tulare County as the Visalia metropolitan area, both separate from the Fresno area. Treat each hospital as its own address and county, and list any Fresno County site separately.

Employer questions

Veterinary recruiting questions

Which veterinary positions can Fresno employers recruit through BEGHR?

The service covers permanent associate veterinarians, veterinary specialists, emergency DVMs, surgery appointments, medical directors and regional veterinary leaders. Search fit depends on the role, clinical requirements and employer brief. The practice makes the final hiring decision.

Is this for employers hiring veterinarians or for job applications?

This website is for practice owners and employer hiring teams seeking permanent veterinary staff. Its form requests a hiring brief and returns a placement estimate after employer opt-in. It is not an open-jobs directory or a candidate application form.

How does milestone billing work?

Agree the role, estimated fee range, billable milestones and payment terms before the search begins. Recruiting uses an hourly, pay-as-you-go model within the agreed range. BEGHR’s published placement process starts billing after applicants are sent. Invoices follow the agreed cadence, at least monthly during billable service delivery. BEGHR handles client billing and account questions.

Do we pay if a search does not result in a hire?

Milestone billing pays for agreed work as the search progresses, so completed billable milestones may still be payable without a placement. Your client agreement specifies the billing triggers, amounts, due dates and any cancellation terms.

Where can we see our placement price?

Select your role, complete the hiring questions and submit your employer contact details through the pricing form to receive an estimated fee range. BEGHR confirms the role classification, final fee and payment milestones before you engage the service.

How long does placement take?

BEGHR’s placement timeframe is 23–55 days. Timing depends on the role, candidate availability and the employer’s hiring process.

How does BEGHR pricing compare with contingency recruiting?

BEGHR offers placement at typically 50% less than contingency recruiting and 50% off second and subsequent hires for the same role. Use the pricing form for an estimate and confirm your fee and repeat-hire eligibility before starting.

What fill rate does BEGHR report?

BEGHR reports 86% fill rate on active searches across its placement service. This provider-wide figure is not a city-specific or veterinary-only result and does not guarantee an individual hiring outcome.

Who receives my employer inquiry?

Business Executive Group receives your contact information, selected roles, qualification answers, placement estimate and the originating website and page through its existing BEGHR lead intake. This is an employer inquiry, not a candidate job application.

How are placement fees confirmed?

The instant-pricing form uses BEGHR’s role categories and current retail ranges to show an estimate after you submit your employer details. The provider confirms the actual category, scope, payment milestones and commercial terms before a search engagement begins.
